Le recyclage et la conscience écologique,plus qu’une action ponctuelle dictée par les marketings divers et avariés doit êtreune démarche consciente, pensée. Cette démarche doit venir d'une réflexion baséesur les faits et la dégradation perpétuelle de son environnement par l'homme.Les ressources disparaissent les unes après les autres, les extractionsdiverses de ces ressources érodent et polluent de plus en plus une nature déjà abiméepar presque 2 siècles d'industrialisation.

Ce n’est pas une étiquette survotre bouteille d'eau ou vos cabas à la place des sacs en plastique qui vachanger cela. Les problèmes ne se traitent pas et ne se résolvent pas à lapointe des icebergs en pleine fonte mais en allant droit à leurs racines. Toutle monde se rachète une (bonne) petite conscience à coups de produitscertifiés, étiquetés, labélisés. Bonne conscience plutôt que conscience: aprèsavoir fait sa petite action bio, on peut dormir tranquille sur ses deux oreillesen croyant que grâce a sa « petite goutte dans l’océan », la planète n'exploserapas demain, les forêts arrêteront de disparaitre, les animaux en voied'extinction pourront recommencer à se reproduire : tout est bien quifinit bien.

Le constat final pourrait nepas se révéler aussi rose, ou vert, et les solutions classiques n'être passuffisantes.

Consommation de masse

La plupart des objets faisantpartie intégrante de nos vies ne sont pas recyclables. Certains objets sont « programmés »pour tomber en panne après peu de temps et ne sont pas réparables pour pousserles gens à acheter a nouveau (machines à laver le linge, grille-pain et autreappareils ménagers). Par le passé, ces mêmes appareils pouvaient durer des décenniesou être effectivement réparés.

Les objets électroniques et tousles gadgets relatifs à la course au progrès, à la vitesse de communication ausein des « réseaux sociaux », les téléphones portables et autrestablettes sont pour la plupart non recyclables. Les batteries sont maintenanttotalement intégrées à l'objet. Les métaux lourds et extrêmement polluants, commele mercure ou le plomb, que l’on trouve dans ces appareils portables de mêmeque dans les ordinateurs de bureau, finissent donc à la poubelle puis dans lanature où ils polluent les nappes phréatiques et empoisonnent les sols. Nosappareils électroniques ont une longévité de plus en plus limitée et deviennenttrès vite obsolètes. Manque de compatibilité, effet de mode, progrès etminiaturisation galopants nous forcent à consommer toujours plus pour resterperformants, « dans la course ».
Certains composants de ces derniers sont recyclables, cuivre, métaux diversayant encore une valeur. Mais le recyclage est fait dans des pays sous-développés,de manière clandestine, par des travailleurs sous-payés dont la survie en dépend.Les sols sont contaminés en profondeur. Les travailleurs, sans protectiond’aucune sorte, tombent vite malades et mourront probablement de cettecontamination. L’ironie est qu’une fois les matériaux « précieux » récupérés,ils sont ensuite réacheminés vers l’Occident. Recyclage laissant pollutions,exploitation et morts dans son sillage.

Malgré des efforts récents dansle recyclage des plastiques, cela ne constitue qu'une partie infime comparée àla production mondiale et journalière de matières plastiques neuves. Elles sontdangereuses pour la santé (récente interdiction dans certains pays occidentauxdu bisphénol A utilisé dans la production des bouteilles d’eau et autresbiberons). Ces matières s’entassent, sous les formes les plus diverses, dans lanature, pour des centaines d’années (en moyenne 500 ans). Dans les océans, lescourants ont poussé des montagnes de déchets plastiques maintenant bloquées àcertains endroits, telle la Grande zone d’ordures du Pacifique (une nouvelleplaque vient d’être découverte dans l’Atlantique Nord). Même une fois dégradées,les matières plastiques ne se décomposent jamais totalement et on les retrouve jusquedans la chair des poissons. Dans ces décharges océanes, le plancton, sourceprimaire de la vie pour les êtres marins, est réduit à l extrême, car lesplaques de déchets font écran à la lumière du soleil et empêchent le développementde la vie sous-marine.

On cherche maintenant àproduire des plastiques d'origines végétales, dégradables et plus sains pour lasanté. Mais ces recherches sont encore limitées et utilisent des matières debase comme le mais. Celui-ci, souvent génétiquement modifié, demande pour unebonne croissance une importante consommation d’eau douce, des engrais et despesticides. Donc polluant, gourmand en ressources et dangereux pour la santé etmenaçant, comme la production des biocarburants, d’affamer une bonne partie del’humanité. Il faut aussi savoir que le prochain problème auquel nous devronsfaire face sera le manque d’eau douce et potable.

Il faut évidemment ajouter à tout cela letransport des marchandises, la pollution liée au dégagement de CO2, le pétrole employéet toute la logistique pour que les produits de l’atelier du monde, la Chine,arrivent dans nos magasins déjà surchargés. Ce système nous permet de bénéficierde produits "abordables" et de faire ainsi tourner la roue destructricede l’économie globale, nous poussant à consommer toujours plus.

Un nouveau problème se développe, l'épuisement des ressources minières en métauxet minéraux divers et le manque de terres arables. Récemment les traders de WallStreet ainsi que bon nombre d’investisseurs se sont jetés sur ce nouveau marchéqu'ils créent au fur et à mesure qu'ils l’exploitent et en tirent profit. Deshectares de terres sont achetés ou loués pour des décennies en Afrique, principalementpar des entreprises. Les terres sont utilisées pour la culture de diversesplantes, principalement du mais et du blé. La plupart de ces cultures sontintensives, utilisant des engrais très agressifs et de nouvelles générations deplantes génétiquement modifiées poussant à une allure extrême. Les terres sontappauvries très vite, les écosystèmes détruits. Les paysans et les populationslocales sont expropriés sans compensation et privés des seules ressources leurpermettant de se nourrir.

La foire artisanale du 9 Juillet étaient extrêment agréable. Cela fait plaisir de parler dans sa propre langue avec ses compatriotes et de pouvoir rencontrer d'autres créateurs français. L'ambiance était très bonne et le public au rendez-vous. Nous aurions eu plus de temps pour l'organisation et une date différente, cela aurait été un encore plus grand succés. De petites photos, du jour et des articles vendus! J'ai aussi appris plein de choses ce jour là au sujet du statut d'auto-entrepreuneur dans lequel je vais me lancer. Vous ne croyez peut-être pas que j'allais arrêter Recycled by Hyena !!????

I am going back to France. So all my spies can know! I have been going through very difficult times and I am left with no other choices. There is a lot of things I will miss about USA and some I won't. I love the space, the light and the openess of people. Their way to mind their own business but at the same time to be able to say some kind words to you. This doesn't exists in France. Everything is more little, we have less light and people are often agressive. But we have some other good things. The food I missed so much, a beautiful country...maybe a desire to take photographies again, travel through Europe this time, maybe go to Russia see where my ancestors lived.

Projects and realities. A lot of paperwork, a lot of unknown, my business on hold, even though I will let all my stores opened and travel with my inventory so I will be able to ship any order. Find a job, be independant, be responsible. Be with my family.

Parts of my heart I will leave behind in shapes of friends, of loves, of animals. But Ulysse will follow unlike Argos. When everything will be ready in Ithaque.

7 years is and is not a long time. 7 years is difficult to fit into boxes.

Ecchymose - Recycled Shrug

It's almost 2 am and maybe not the right time to write a "personal" post on this blog which is supposed to be about my business only. But well, I need to take it off...

I left my husband, there was no love anymore and a lot of problems we couldn't overcome. I made the decision last Spring and I won't enter in the details but things are getting ugly and I am left with nothing.

Thing is now I am leaving far away of Nashville because all the supposed friends I had were not there to help me. I am trying all I can to come back to Nashville because this is the only place I can find a part time job and continue to work like crazy on Recycled by Hyena.

I won't let it down, as I won't let down the 2 loves of my life who are sticking up with me. I am really down and depressed but I am trying to maintain my head out of the water and I have been working, very very slowly on the new collection. Not having my machines with me makes it extremely difficult and I have been doing a LOT of hand sewing.

Several months ago I told a friend I would prefer to have love and be happy than to have money, that I didn't "really"care about money. Karma bit me in the ass I guess as I now wonder if I won't be obliged to get food stamps.

Anyway I am part russian, I am "strong" and stubborn, and I am loved. It should be ok.

My last Fiber Jewelry creations, soon to be listed.

Sunday I sold 2 items in the same day. It happens before of course, but it was 2 items to the same person. This time, the first time, it was not. Somehow, it was feeling like a milestone, a kind of success. I don't really know how to express it, but I was really pleased. The funny thing about the jacket is I didn't even had the time to list it anywhere! It flew off the hanger! :)

Also my work is featured in another treasury from my lovely French Team!

Apart from being sick and sick and sick the last 7 days, I have sold Velours. I am so happy because I really love that piece! All in all, I think I sold most of my Winter Collection, the one I designed for that runway show in Atlanta, the one I never did because they got rid of me at the last minute. Karma la la la!!!

Etsy Front Page

I have been on the Etsy Front Page 3 times these last 10 days!!! I was totally amazed. I also was in several Treasuries thanks to my team mate of the Etsy French Team.

I have been working slowly on new things. First a batch of Fiber Jewelry. I also have a big project coming but I am not telling...

In the following days, I will go back to my loved and missed sewing-machines. I had so many different things to take care of that it didn't left me any time to sew. I am missing it a lot. When I am saying this is an antidepressant for me, it really is. I am almost depressed not sewing and creating anymore.

And it is still cold out there but the house is more and more warm, we have now natural gas heating and the windows are all "doubled". When I will have finished these darn walls, I will feel better. And ready for the next room to fix! Which will probably be my studio and its huge closet that has been conceived like nothing and is half closed and not usable. Too bad because I am running out of space.

So stay tuned because the next fashion batch of recycled deliciousness will be crazy! (I know I know, I am not being very humble, but heck, I love my work and my clients love it too, so what?!)

Old Gurna Village - It probably doesn't exist anymore. The Egyptian Departement of Archeology decided to get rid of everyone. Now it will be without life, a paradise for tourists drowned in concrete.

I am back from France and from Egypt. I don't know if I can find the right words and I think I will prefer silence.

If I would have someone to thank, it would be all the people caring deeply for our planet and for Nature. The ongoing fight they are having which can seem at time pointless and ineffective.

But yesterday, I was reminding myself: 30 years ago, people were caring about atomic pollution, atomic weapons and so on. I am not optimistic by nature, but mind sets are changing. It will probably be "only" necessity that will make us change at a global and radical level. But at least the change will come.

Meanwhile, there is a growing interest for recycling, Eco-consciousness and all things green. So thank you to all of you! My little business means more than just selling and making a profit (insert lol). Thank you all for your wonderful comments, thank you all for putting the words out there about my work.

Winter Collection Snapshots

Here are the last garments I created. I spent 10 days, almost since I am back from Peru, working on these. I am really happy with the result. The whole feeling of that mini collection is almost exactly what I was aiming at: sexy and classy at the same time, elegant and bad ass, and best of all, as usual: recycled from second hand clothings and salvaged fabrics!

Most of these are so comfortable I would just want to keep them for myself! Even the dresses!

So waiting for more professional shots, here are the quickie snapshots we did with hubby on Sunday afternoon. And more is coming as the flow of inspiration and energy lately is really good so stay tuned!
